The 20-year anniversary issue of Art of the West honors Daniel Smith as one of their choices among 21 artists as a future Master Western artist. Daniel Smith was granted the prestigious "Artist of Distinction" award at the second annual Quest for the West Art Show and Sale at the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art, located in Indianapolis, Indiana on September 8, 2007. This award was presented to the artist with the best overall body of work exhibited in the show. Smith's paintings included "Lying in Wait," a 16" x 32" painting of a cougar lying in tall grass; "Frost and Fire," a 22" x 40" painting depicting three wolves and "Soakin` it Up," a 10" x 9" portrait of a swimming grizzly bear.
